Glasgow brings innovation to medal design for Commonwealth Games

The upcoming Commonwealth Games 2026 is set to introduce a fresh approach to medal design, with host city Glasgow unveiling a unique and inclusive concept.

Breaking away from the traditional round shape, the medals for Glasgow 2026 will feature a distinctive Reuleaux triangle design. The medals will also incorporate braille and tactile elements, highlighting a strong commitment to inclusivity and the growing prominence of para sports at the Games.

The design has been created by artist Militsa Milenkova, who drew inspiration from Glasgow’s coat of arms. Elements of the Finnieston Crane and Scotland’s iconic tartan patterns have also influenced the structure and texture of the medal.

President of Commonwealth Sport, Donald Rukare, said the medals reflect the spirit of Glasgow 2026 as a reimagined Games that is not afraid to do things differently.

He added that every detail-from the braille to the three-tiered structure-has been carefully considered to ensure the medals are both meaningful and instantly recognizable.

Organizers believe the innovative design will not only stand out visually but also send a strong message of inclusivity and modern identity for the Commonwealth Games.
