Bangladesh’s place in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup has been confirmed, with Nigar Sultana Joty’s side sealing qualification with two matches still to play in the qualifiers.

The Bangladesh women’s team had been on the brink of qualification after winning all five of their five matches in the qualifying phase. However, the United States’ defeat to Netherland ensured Bangladesh’s spot in the World Cup, making the remaining two matches inconsequential for qualification.

Earlier, Bangladesh had taken a big step towards the World Cup by defeating Thailand by 39 runs in their opening Super Six match of the qualifiers. That victory had left Joty and her teammates needing just one more win from their remaining two games—or even a washed-out match—to secure qualification.

Before that scenario could unfold, Netherland’s victory over the United States in another Super Six encounter confirmed Bangladesh’s qualification, officially booking the Bangladesh women’s team a place in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Netherlands also secured a place in the main event of the T20 World Cup by defeating the United States. The Netherlands women's cricket team will be playing in the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time.

On Wednesday (January 28), the Netherlands defeated the United States by 21 runs under rain rules at the Thibuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

The United States won the toss and batted first and scored 129 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. In reply, the game was stopped due to rain after scoring 90 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 12 overs. The Dutch needed 70 runs to win according to the Duckworth-Lewis method. The Netherlands won by 21 runs by going beyond that target.

Bangladesh secured a place in the main event of the World Cup with the Netherlands. However, although both teams have collected 6 points from three matches, Bangladesh is ahead on the run rate.
