BCB Announces Launch of First-Ever Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) T20

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced the launch of the Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) T20, marking a historic milestone for women’s cricket in the country. The inaugural edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place from 3 to 15 April 2026.

The WBPL will be Bangladesh’s first franchise-based Twenty20 competition for women, representing a significant step forward in the professional development of the women’s game. The tournament aims to provide a structured platform for both established national players and emerging talents.

According to the BCB Women’s Wing, the opening edition will feature three franchise teams. The squads will be formed through a player draft system designed to maintain competitive balance while ensuring strength and depth across all teams.

Franchises will also have the opportunity to recruit overseas professional players, a move expected to enhance the tournament’s competitive standard and provide valuable international exposure for local cricketers.

The WBPL Governing Council will be chaired by Rubaba Dowla, BCB Director and Chairperson of the BCB Women’s Wing. The council will be responsible for overseeing all organisational and operational matters related to the competition.

The BCB stated that further details regarding franchises, draft regulations, competition format, fixtures, venues, broadcast arrangements, and commercial partnerships will be announced in due course.

The introduction of the WBPL is widely seen as a pioneering initiative that could play a crucial role in accelerating the growth and visibility of women’s cricket in Bangladesh.
