The inaugural edition of the Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (WBPL) is set to begin on April 4, with the final scheduled for April 14. The tournament will be played across two venues- Dhaka and Chattogram.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday (February 22). The board later confirmed the development through an official statement.

The BCB had earlier announced plans to introduce the women’s franchise tournament this year. The opening edition will feature three franchise teams, marking a significant step in the growth of women’s cricket in Bangladesh.

Players will be selected through a draft system to ensure balanced squads. Franchises will also have the opportunity to sign overseas players directly, allowing for international participation in the competition.

Although the tournament’s start date has been finalised, several key aspects are still being worked on. The BCB stated that details regarding franchise ownership, draft regulations, and the competition format are yet to be confirmed.

The board, however, assured that preparations are ongoing and comprehensive information will be announced in due course.
