Nigar Sultana Reprimanded by ICC for Code of Conduct Breach

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the Code of Conduct during the third T20I against Sri Lanka in Sylhet.

The incident falls under a Level 1 offence, with one demerit point added to Nigar’s disciplinary record. It is her first offence within a 24-month period.

Nigar was found to have violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures during an international match.

The breach occurred during Bangladesh’s innings when Nigar, after being dismissed, showed her frustration by throwing her bat onto the ground before leaving the field.

Nigar admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Supriya Rani Das of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Shathira Jakir Jesy, along with third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Champa Chakma.

For Level 1 breaches, the minimum penalty is an official reprimand, while the maximum can be up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee along with one or two demerit points.

Under ICC regulations, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points, which can lead to a ban. Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first.
