Bangladesh overtakes Sri Lanka to move to eighth place in ICC T20 rankings

Bangladesh have moved up to eighth place in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, overtaking Sri Lanka following the annual update released on Tuesday.

The updated rankings give 100 per cent weightage to matches played since May 2025 and 50 per cent to those played in the previous two years. As a result, Sri Lanka have dropped six rating points and slipped to ninth position, allowing Bangladesh to move ahead.

At the top of the table, India have retained their No.1 spot with 275 rating points. England remain in second place with 262 points, while Australia are close behind in third with 258. The rest of the top seven positions remain unchanged, with New Zealand (247), South Africa (244), Pakistan (240) and the West Indies (233) holding their places.

Among other changes, the USA have climbed to 13th position after overtaking the Netherlands and Scotland. Nepal have moved up to 17th, surpassing the United Arab Emirates, while Oman have progressed to 19th ahead of Canada.

Further down the rankings, Italy have jumped from 26th to 23rd after gaining 11 points, while Spain’s 12-point increase has taken them from 30th to 26th. Cyprus and Eswatini have also made notable gains with 10 points each.

Mozambique suffered the biggest drop, falling 15 places to 87th. The number of ranked teams has also been reduced from 102 to 98, with Fiji, Gambia, Greece and Israel dropping out after failing to meet the requirement of playing at least eight T20Is in the past three years.

In the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings, Australia continue to lead with 287 points, followed by England (275) and India (264), with no changes in the top 16 positions.
